What is Hardcore?

Hardcore is pretty much the same game. The only big difference is that you only have one life per character. So choosing to fight a big pack of mobs under geared can mean certain death. Here is a little experiment that I want you to try. Create a hardcore character. Set the difficulty to the highest you can get it too. Then start a hardcore campaign with that character. The point of this experiment is to try and survive without picking up any gear or items. See how far you can get. Doing this experiment will open your mind to how kiting and dodging attacks are really a necessary thing to do. In hardcore you cannot just stand there and take the hits and die. It’s ok to do that in soft core, but you will die standing there in hardcore. The other part of the experiment is to die. You probably won’t get too far if this is your first hardcore character. So getting your first character death out of the way now in this experiment will help with the nerves later on. Losing a character later on will be much more of a mental impact if you don't know what it feels like to die.

Pace of Hardcore

One thing to keep in mind when first starting out in hardcore is to slow down a bit. What I mean by this is to not run gung-ho into mobs. I like to run the edges of the maps and kill off all the mobs on the edges. Then work my way through the middle zig zagging. If you run the middle of the map first, you are more likely to get into fights with multiple rare and champ packs. Your goal starting out is to fight packs one at a time. Remember, when the going gets tough, run the way you came, not into an uncharted area. Running into areas you haven't cleared yet will get you killed. In hardcore it’s also pretty important to learn what types of moves that mobs do. Like if a certain mob is running at you, can you take a hit? Or will he one shot you with his huge hammer slam. Remember from Mike Tysons punch out, “Stick and move, Stick and move”. Stuff like this is important to learn as you go along. Remember the turtle wins the race.

Resources

So if you’re new to hardcore you realized that you have nothing. In the beginning its important to just farm for rares, blues, and whites and build up your storage with crafting materials and back up gear in case you die. Heck, I mean WHEN you die. Whites are hard to come by later on. So while you see them on the ground, pick them up and break them down at the black smith. It would behoove you to grind it out and level that blacksmith up as soon as possible. The blacksmith gear is there to help fill in the gap. Another trick of the trade is to use the vender. If you don't see an item you need you can always reset the game, and check the vender again to get the item with the stats you want. Doing this will help your characters stay alive longer.

Stats and Leveling

What I do in hardcore is stack VIT and high armor values. Doing this will keep you alive longer. Later on around level 50 or so you want to start stacking resist all gear. What you can do is stay in one area for a while and farm for gear with resists on them. For your first hardcore character I suggest running normal difficulty. Doing this will ensure a better chance at survival. I usually run at the highest difficulty and ramp down when the mobs HP gets too unbearable. Doing the leveling this way is much faster, but more dangerous. You can try out whatever way you like it’s your game and your time.

Conclusion

This was a quick intro to hardcore. In the future I will write more specific articles about characters, gearing, skills, and how to survive.

Heroes of the Storm

The information for Heroes is getting more exciting by the week, almost by the day. The Technical Alpha has been announced, so we may be able to finally play and report to you on the game first hand shortly. Also, over the past couple of weeks now, Heroesnexus.com has been going through the internal “Development Alpha” build and we have sneak peeks at early skins, systems, and much more.

It appears that a weekly rotation of a set number of free to play Heroes will be in per week, rotating out to new ones the following week. Also, similar to Heathstone when it was in Closed Beta, a special gift appears to be given out to those that test the in-game shop. These two points make it seem that Blizzard is going with a “LoL” model vs. “DOTA2”. As always though with Early, rapidly changing, datamined information, take it with a huge grain of salt seeing as it may already have changed internally by the time we see it.

Hearthstone

Hearthsone gave us a few updates and teases for the future. Season 3 has come to a close with the posting of the ranks. New card backs that we were told about at BlizzCon last year were shown off. Two of which were labeled as “upcoming reward” leaving us to wonder more! With no new balance patches being announced yet, this may be solidifying the cards as they are along with a rather ominous tweet regarding “last chance” to get your Goblin Mekkatorque, we may be at release really soon!
